Times names All-Area team

TRI-CITY AREA —From start to finish, these competitors set themselves apart from the rest with their respective performances on the course.

Here is a look at who was named to the 2024 edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area golf team and the numbers they put up along the way:

Jacob Burgess, Dryden.

Burgess supplied a 39.4 average per nine-hole round this spring, good for first on the Dryden squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior managed a 79 for medalist honors at a NCTL quad hosted by Rolling Hills Golf Course in Lapeer; posted an 80 for a four-way tie for third medalist honors at a Division 4 regional at Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; and added an 87 for 27th at the Frankenmuth Invitational hosted by The Fortress Golf Course.

He also provided a 184 over 36 holes, consisting of a 100 and an 84, en route to a 55th during the Division 4 state finals at The Meadows Golf Course on the campus of Grand Valley State University in Allendale.

This was his third season on Dryden’s squad.

Cam Bourdeau, Almont.

Bourdeau averaged 39.7 for nine holes during the 2024 campaign, leaving him first on the Almont squad and second out of those named to the Tri-City Times All-Area first team lineup.

The senior took medalist honors with a 71 at the Holly Meadows Golf Course-based Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament in Capac; carded a 78 for 25th at the Orange Theory Tournament hosted by Hudson Mills Golf Course; generated an 81 en route to a 29th at the Highest Honor Tournament hosted by Huron Meadows Golf Course; contributed an 82 for 71st at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans Gill Tournament; supplied an 84 en route to 11th during a Division 3 regional hosted by Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti; plus tacked on an 88 for 63rd at the Charger Invitational hosted by Flint Golf Club.

He also managed a 165 over 36 holes, including an opening round 85 and a closing round 80, for 21st during the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his fourth season on Almont’s squad.

Bourdeau ended the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

In addition to this honor, Bourdeau was named the BWAC’s MVP.

He has signed to play golf collegiately at Northwood University.

Manny Goldstein, Almont.

Goldstein generated a 40.7 average per nine-hole round this spring, good for second on the Almont squad and third among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior claimed second medalist honors with a 74 at the Holly Meadows Golf Course-based Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament in Capac; furnished a 75 en route to a ninth at the Orange Theory Tournament hosted by Hudson Mills Golf Course; posted a 78 for second medalist honors during a Division 3 regional hosted by Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti; managed a 79 en route to a seventh at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans Gill Tournament; furnished an 81 for 35th at the Charger Invite; and provided an 83 en route to a 42nd at the Highest Honor Tournament hosted by Huron Meadows Golf Course.

He also chipped in a 167 over 36 holes, featuring an opening round 87 and a closing round 80, for 26th during the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his fourth season on Almont’s squad.

Goldstein wrapped up the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.

Sonny Coscione, Dryden.

Coscione averaged 41.2 for nine holes during the 2024 campaign, leaving him second on the Dryden squad and fourth out of those named to the Tri-City Times All-Area first team lineup.

The junior posted an 82 at a NCTL quad hosted by Rolling Hills Golf Course in Lapeer; supplied a 90 en route to a five-way tie for 34th during a Division 4 regional at Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; plus carded a 95 for 48th at the Frankenmuth Invitational hosted by The Fortress Golf Course.

This was his second year on Dryden’s squad.

Nolan Roszczewski, Almont.

Rosczczewski managed a 42.6 average per nine-hole round this spring, good for third on the Almont squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The junior posted an 81 en route to a three-way tie for eighth at the Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament at Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; supplied an 83 for 42nd at the Highest Honor Tournament at Huron Meadows Golf Course; carded an 83 en route to a 46th at Charger Invitational hosted by Flint Golf Club; furnished an 85 for 49th at the Hudson Mills Golf Course-based Orange Theory Tournament; contributed an 88 en route to a 43rd at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans Gill Tournament; plus provided a 92 for 36th during a Division 3 regional at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti.

He also generated a 192 over 36 holes, consisting of a pair of 96s, for 87th during the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his third season on Almont’s squad.

Roszczewski finished the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick.

Jacob Fuller, Almont.

Fuller averaged 43 for nine holes during the 2024 campaign, leaving him fourth on the Almont squad and sixth out of those named to the Tri-City Times All-Area first team lineup.

The junior supplied a 78 for 12th at the Highest Honor Tournament hosted by Huron Meadows Golf Course; managed an 81 en route to a three-way tie for eighth at the Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament hosted by Capac’s Holly Meadows Golf Course; managed an 82 for seventh during a Division 3 regional at Ypsilanti’s Washtenaw Golf Club; furnished an 85 en route to 49th at the Orange Theory Tournament hosted by Hudson Mills Golf Course; plus carded an 87 for 40th at the Evans Gill Tournament hosted by Timberwood Golf Course.

He also posted a 176 over 36 holes, including an opening round of 87 and a closing round 89, during the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his first year on Almont’s squad.

Fuller completed the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team selection.

Jaxon Szlaga, Almont.

Szlaga furnished a 45.7 average per nine-hole round this spring, good for fifth on the Almont squad and seventh among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The senior generated an 87 for 22nd at the Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament hosted by Holly Meadows Golf Course in Capac; generated a 91 en route to 81st during the Highest Honor Tournament at Huron Meadows Golf Course; managed a 93 for 28th at the Orange Theory Tournament hosted by Hudson Mills Golf Course; supplied a 93 en route to a 43rd during a Division 3 regional hosted by Ypsilanti’s Washtenaw Golf Club; plus contributed a 97 for 87th at the Evans Gill Tournament hosted by Timberwood Golf Course.

He also chipped in an 18-hole output of 100, representing Almont during round number two of the Division 3 state finals at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his second year on Almont’s squad.

Szlaga concluded the year as an All-Blue Water Area Conference honorable mention choice.

Jerry Schurig, Almont.

Schurig averaged 45.8 for nine holes during the 2024 campaign, leaving him sixth on the Almont squad and eighth out of those named to the Tri-City Times All-Area first team lineup.

The senior posted an 89 en route to a 67th at the Charger Invitational hosted by Flint Golf Club; plus registered a 90 for 24th at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament hosted by Capac’s Holly Meadows Golf Course.

He also contributed a 91 over 18 holes, representing Almont during day one of the Division 3 state finals hosted by Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

This was his fourth year on Almont’s squad.

Second team– Sam Schneider, Capac; Luca Longo, Capac; Jacob Buffo, Dryden; Adam Schaefer, Capac, Matt Volz, Capac; and Gianni Coscione, Dryden.

Honorable mention– Tanner Land, Imlay City; and Austin Howard, Capac.

Coach of the Year– For directing his team to a top finish at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament; a two-way tie for second at a Division 3 regional hosted by Ypsilanti’s Washtenaw Golf Club; a fifth at the Timberwood Golf Course-based Evans Gill Tournament; and a two-way tie for 11th at the Division 3 state finals hosted by Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Almont Coach Mark Bone earns Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
