Almont shares 11th at finals

ALMONT — Cam Bourdeau shot a 165 over 36 holes for 21st and Manny Goldstein carded a 167 en route to a 26th, leading the Almont boys’ golf team to a two-way tie for 11th place at the Division 3 state finals this past week.

Katke Golf Course, in Big Rapids, is where the tournament was contested.

Traverse City St. Francis won the team title with a 640 total. They were followed by Jackson Lumen Christi (658), Grand Rapids West Catholic and Grand Rapids Covenant Christian (668 each), Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian (680), Tawas (684), Remus Chippewa Hills (688), Lansing Catholic (689), Essexville Garber (691), Ann Arbor Greenhills (692), Almont and Miillington (695 apiece), Alma (707), Grosse Ile and Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (720 each), South Haven (736), Schoolcraft (745) and Dowagiac (777).

Bourdeau opened Friday with an 85.

He then followed it up Saturday with an 80, good for a 165 total.

Goldstein started things off Friday with an 87.

Saturday saw him post an 80, giving him a two-day total of 167.

Jacob Fuller (176) supplied Almont’s third best output. His effort included an opening round of 87 and a second round of 89, good for a share of 53rd place.

Jerry Schurig and Jaxon Szlaga managed Almont’s next best two-day total (191) en route to an 89th. Schurig shot a 91 Friday and Szlaga carded a 100 Saturday.

Nolan Roszczewski (192) also competed for Almont at the Division 4 state finals. His performance, good for 90th overall, consisted of a pair of 96s.

The low four individual rounds each day counted toward Almont’s team total.

The Almont boys’ golf squad also received first team Academic All-State honors this past week. Cameron Bourdeau, Jerry Schurig and Jaxon Szlaga were all named to the Academic All-State lineup as individuals.
