Spartans fifth, Raiders take eighth

TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City and Almont wrestling teams placed fifth and eighth, respectively, last Saturday at the Blue Water Area Conference Tournament in Algonac.
Yale edged Algonac, 214 points to 212.5, for team honor that day. They were followed by Richmond (170 points), Cros-Lex (115.5), Imlay City (95), North Branch (66), Armada (51) and Almont (23).
Dominic D’Ambrosio led Imlay City with a first. He reached the title bout at 138 pounds where pinned Algonac’s Steven Shannon with 2:13 gone.
For his showing that day, D’Ambrosio was named the MVP of the Lower Weight Classes.
Tanner Land and Travis Dupont provided Imlay City with second-place finishes. Land gained admittance to the 120-pound championship clash where he was downed 11-4 by Yale’s Landon Sopha and Dupont advanced to the title bout at 144 pounds where he dropped a 10-2 verdict to Algonac’s Alex Bright.
Christopher Galiana and Conner Wildie added thirds to Imlay City’s cause. Galiana closed out 126-pound action when he pinned Cros-Lex’s Nikolas Krcaj with 4:08 gone and Wildie finished his stint at 138 pounds with a 5-4 win against Yale’s Logan Winters.
Liam Szymanski supplied the lone Almont placewinning performance that day, registering a fourth. He wrapped up 285-pound weight class action when he was pinned by North Branch’s Eli Bickel with 28 seconds elapsed.
