Motorist arrested after eluding police

Police say suspect was driving without a valid driver’s license

 

ALMONT — A 28-year-old Detroit man has been charged with fleeing and eluding police following a lengthy police pursuit in the early hours of Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Almont police reported that the pursuit began around 12:34 a.m. in the vicinity of Van Dyke Rd. near Hough Rd., and ended with the man’s arrest at a location on Van Dyke near M-90.

Almont Police Sgt. David Repshas said the motorist was seen traveling northbound at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for police.

With assistance from the Dryden and Imlay City police departments and Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept., officers were eventually able to stop and apprehend the evading motorist.

Sgt. Repshas noted that “stop sticks” were deployed by Imlay City police in an effort to slow the vehicle down.

Repshas credited Almont Officer Steve Best with making the arrest.

Repshas said the driver faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing police, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and driving without a valid operator’s license.

Following his arrest, the suspect was transported to and lodged in the Lapeer County Jail.
