Imlay City girls win Div. 2 pre-regional meet

 

TRI-CITY AREA — The Imlay City and Almont girls’ cross country squads took first and fifth, respectively, last Saturday at a Division 2 pre-regional hosted by Lutheran North High School.

Imlay City (34), Cros-Lex (45), Lutheran North (51) and Armada (89) occupied places one through four at meet’s end.

With their finishes, those schools move on to this Saturday’s regional hosted by Algonac High School.

Almont, which accumulated 141 points, placed fifth at the pre-regional level.

Madison Heights Lamphere, Hazel Park and Yale also participated, but did not field complete squads.

Jessica Denver, first, 19:47; led Imlay City. The Spartans also counted results courtesy of Mary Kaminski, fifth, 21:18; Elizabeth Sliman, ninth, 21:36; Alice Johnson, 10th, 21:38; and Sydney Kapushinski, 17th, 22:27.

Molly Kline, 20th, 22:35; Ayla DeLaurier, 33rd, 24:32; and Heather Fitchett, 34th, 24:35; paced Almont that day.

For their performances, Kline along with DeLaurier and Fitchett qualified for the upcoming regional meet by ranking among the top-seven finishers not on a qualifying team.

Emily Kwierant, 36th, 24:17; and Haley Dempz, 37th, 25:15; supported their efforts.
