Ideal fall weather fuels strong start to harvest season

MUSSEY TWP. — Ideal autumn weather has given local farmers a strong start to the 2026 fall harvest, with sunshine, warm temperatures, and breezy conditions helping dry grain directly in the fields.

Across the region, soybean harvesting is in full swing, while the sugar beet harvest — underway since early September — continues steadily.

Sugar beet harvest has been underway since early September and continues throughout the fall season. Corn fields are maturing and drying down, and farmers harvesting silage and high-moisture corn are hard at work preparing feed supplies ahead of winter.

If favorable weather holds, many growers expect to wrap up field operations by Thanksgiving.
