Lapeer County Concert Choir tunes up for 57th season

LAPEER COUNTY — The Lapeer County Concert Choir is warming up its vocal cords for a landmark 57th season, inviting singers from across the region to pull up a chair — and a plate — for its upcoming fall kickoff.

The group will launch the new season on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a registration and dessert potluck 6:30-7:30 p.m., followed by a one-hour rehearsal. The open house will take place in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, 433 N. Calhoun St. in Lapeer. Regular season rehearsals will continue weekly from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the church.

Returning director Heather Hundt has set the theme for the upcoming concert series as “Christmas through the Ages.” The season will culminate in three holiday performances scheduled for Dec. 11, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20.

Prospective members are welcome to try out the choir on a trial basis during any of the first three rehearsals on Sept. 1, Sept. 8 or Sept. 15. A seasonal registration fee is required by Sept. 22 for all continuing participants.

Choir organizers emphasize that group singing offers a wide range of holistic benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, reduced stress levels and a stronger sense of local connection. The ensemble draws vocalists from communities across the thumb and surrounding areas, including Lapeer, Imlay City, North Branch, Davison, Dryden and Almont.
