Thumb-Area farmers capitalize on ideal weather for harvest

Favorable weather conditions across Michigan’s Thumb region have allowed local agricultural producers to make swift progress on their autumn crop harvests.

Area growers have taken full advantage of clear, dry weather to harvest their soybean crops, leaving visible plumes of combine dust across regional fields. Agricultural reports indicate that a large majority of the soybean harvest is complete, with operations expected to transition toward corn shortly.

At the same time, the annual sugar beet harvest campaign has ramped up dramatically over the past two to three weeks. Long lines of farm trucks continue to deliver freshly harvested beets to drop stations throughout the Thumb, keeping regional processing facilities in Croswell and Bay City operating at full capacity.
