Diane Marie Halteman, 78

Diane Marie Halteman, age 78, formerly of Almont, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Orlando, Florida.

Born on August 13, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, Diane was the eldest daughter of John Meskaukas and Florence Statkiewicz. She graduated from Warren Fitzgerald High School in Warren, Michigan, where she met the love of her life, Danny Halteman. The two were married on September 10, 1966, beginning a partnership that would span nearly 60 years.

The newlyweds first settled in Sterling Heights, Michigan, where Danny began his long career with Ford Motor Company while Diane worked in retail at a local Kmart. In June 1967, they welcomed their daughter, Tracy, and Diane embraced her role as a stay-at-home mother. Their son Daniel (Todd) was born the following September, and with the arrival of Brian in September 1973, their family was complete. After a brief three-year stay in Shelby Township, Diane and Danny made their permanent home at "the farm" in Almont, Michigan, in December 1978, a place they would cherish for nearly 48 years.

Once the children were all in school, Diane returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for a family medical practice in Rochester, Michigan. For more than 30 years, she was the steady, organized heart of the office, earning the respect and appreciation of both the physicians and staff who relied on her every day.

Outside of work, Diane embraced life through the hobbies she loved. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, following sports, and, above all, bowling. Bowling was a lifelong favorite that she shared with Danny, and over nearly six decades they built lasting friendships both on and off the lanes.

Gardening, however, held a special place in Diane's heart. Whether she was tending vegetables, raspberries, flowering trees, or vibrant flowerbeds, she delighted in helping things grow and took pride in cultivating native plants. In the early 2000s, she completed the coursework to become a certified Master Gardener. Under her loving care, the family farm blossomed into a colorful sanctuary that reflected her creativity, patience and love of nature.

Family was always at the center of Diane's life. She and Danny created countless memories with their children through baseball, 4-H, camping trips, boating, water skiing and fishing at the family cottage. They faithfully cheered from the sidelines through literally thousands of innings of baseball and softball and treasured every family gathering, especially during the holidays.

Diane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was known for her kindness, quiet strength, quick wit, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. More than anything, Diane found her greatest joy in caring for her family and creating a life filled with love and laughter. 

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Danny Halteman; her children, Tracy (Patrick) Leach, Daniel Halteman, and Brian (Tamara) Halteman; two great-grandchildren, Easton and Emberly; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Aaron, Derek, Kaleb (Alexis), Jared, James, Bennett, Adam, and Alaina; her brother, John (Sharon) Austin; her sister, Janet Kaltz; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Joe Kaltz; and her niece, Nicole Kaltz.

Diane's warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Diane's life will be held on Saturday, August 29 from 12 - 4 p.m. at The Van Hoosen Farm, 1005 Van Hoosen Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48306. Appetizers and refreshments will be provided. Bring your favorite memories of Diane to share!

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Diane's honor to the Parkinson's Foundation, Michigan Master Gardener Association, St. Jude, or plant a tree in Diane's honor through A Living Tribute.
