Neighbors Helping Neighbors collecting for community event

LAPEER COUNTY — With winter approaching and the need for basic necessities rising, the local non-profit Neighbors Helping Neighbors is launching its annual community drive to collect personal care and hygiene products for Lapeer County families.

Organizers are asking community members to donate new, unopened toiletries to support the group’s flagship outreach event scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Lapeer Center Building.

Items currently in high demand include toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soap, feminine hygiene products, diapers, and other household essentials for residents of all ages.

Two local businesses are serving as donation drop-off locations leading up to the event:

• New to You Consignment Shop (Lapeer): Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Edward Jones Office (Imlay City): Open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All collected goods will be distributed free of charge during the October event, which acts as a central hub for community aid. Beyond hygiene products and clothing, attendees can access free haircuts and connect directly with service providers offering housing assistance, utility support, employment resources, job training, veterans’ services, and counseling.
