Decades of memories, milestones, and school spirit: Capac High School alumni gather for annual reunion

CAPAC — Decades of memories, milestone anniversaries, and school pride were on full display as Capac High School alumni gathered at St. John Lutheran Church for their annual reunion on the fourth Sunday in June.

The event brought together 86 alumni and 14 guests representing graduating classes spanning from 1951 through 1992.

Attendees celebrated key milestone anniversaries, led by Alberta (Stine) Conrad, Class of 1951, who marked her 75th anniversary since graduating as the oldest alumnus present. The Class of 1976 boasts the highest attendance for the day as they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Among them was Marilyn (Kegler) Loyd, who traveled the farthest for the event from Texas, while Fred Brunelle, Class of 1992, was recognized as the youngest alumnus in attendance.

The afternoon featured a full buffet lunch and dessert, displays of classic yearbooks courtesy of Ron Kriesch, President of the Capac Museum, and CHS mementos provided by Britt Moore. A central highlight was an iconic banner depicting the 1962 CHS District Title basketball team, on loan from the Moore family. During the gathering, Dr. Norbert Conrad and his wife, Alberta, snapped a photo alongside the banner, pointing to themselves in the original audience picture.

Former spirit leaders also took center stage, as ten CHS cheerleaders spanning the classes of 1956 to 1976 led the crowd in a rendition of the school Fight Song.

Community support and giving back remained a focal point of the day. Kathy (Stuever) Foerster, Class of 1972, shared updates on the Capac Classmates Promoting Future Adults nonprofit, noting that the group has awarded $20,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors over its four-year history. Additional support came from 50/50 raffle winner Elizabeth (Gardner) Stange (Class of 1976), who generously donated her entire winnings back — splitting the prize between the Alumni Committee and the scholarship fund.

Organizers Martha (Brancheau) Niemczura and Cindy (Jurn) Potter (Class of 1971) expressed sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make the gathering a success.

Amid the celebration, the group paused to remember 48 classmates who have passed away between January 2025 and June 2026.
