Alma Margaret Laarman, 89

Alma Margaret Laarman, age 89, of Lapeer, Michigan (formerly of Imlay City), died Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

Alma was born August 3, 1936, in Ogemaw County, Michigan to Jake and Helen (Hiller) Hiltz. She married the love of her life, Len Laarman on June 2, 1969, in Lapeer. Alma’s career with A&P Grocery Store spanned 36 years. She was head cashier and eventually retired in 1995 with the title head bookkeeper. She was very proud of her career as she was a very gifted bookkeeper and beloved coworker at the store. Alma was an active member of St. Matthews Anglican Church in Lapeer. In her spare time Alma loved gardening and the occasional trip to Soaring Eagle Casino. She really enjoyed baking cookies for other people. Above all, Alma enjoyed simple moments with her family.

Alma is survived by her children: Kim Kingsbury, Kelly Laarman, Karen (Wally) Northrup and Kolleen McVeigh; sisters: Peggy Makedonsky of Lapeer and Judy (Gary) Grimes of Gladwin; grandchildren: Jeremiah Kingsbury, Joshua (Sarah) Kingsbury, Ethan (Taner) Kingsbury, Katie McVeigh, Kathy (Jesse) Allen, and Nathan (Jordan) McVeigh; great grandchildren: Hayley, Sienna, Eli, Ivan, Jayden and Jayleigh. She is also survived by  her dear friend, Dave Trippet of Lapeer; dear friends, Mark & Mella Haskins of Imlay City and many beloved nieces and nephews. Alma was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Cynthia Moser; granddaughter, Ashley Judd; husband, Len Laarman; brothers: Phil Hiltz, Paul Hiltz and Pete Hiltz; son-in-law, Steve Kingsbury as well as her aforementioned parents, Jake & Helen.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2026, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Alma’s funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, Pastor Colleen Dewey will officiate. Interment will follow immediately at Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum.
