OAKLAND TWP. – Two Lapeer County women are in critical condition at Henry Ford Rochester Hospital following a head-on crash on Rochester Road near Buell Road Friday (July 24).

Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept. spokesman Deputy Tyler Swears said a 49-year-old Imlay City and 56-year-old Almont woman were headed south on Rochester Road at 5:48 a.m. in a 2025 Subaru Outback when a 2022 Ford Escape driven northbound by a 65-year-old Rochester Hills man crossed the centerline, hitting the Subaru.

Swears said the Rochester Hills man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the deceased and conducted an autopsy. While the official cause of death remains pending, investigators do not believe the crash was the result of a medical emergency.

Swears said the Rochester Hills man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but it’s unknown if the Lapeer County women were wearing seatbelts.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit responded to the scene to provide aerial mapping and technical documentation in support of the investigation.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Dept. is withholding name pending notification of next of kin.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies from the Oakland Township Substation with the on-going investigation.
